How to Prepare for Your Wedding Photographs

Published by admin under Photography

Even the best wedding photographer in the world can only enhance appearances up to a certain point. It is up to the couple who want the best possible wedding photographs to do all they can to present themselves at their best. Here we offer some hints and tips for those who are about to enjoy the services of a professional like Kat Hannon, in our opinion the best photographer in Surrey and South west London. It is worth studying these tips and taking them to heart because this is a day that will be reviewed by generations to come through those photographs and you want them to do you credit.

Make Sure Your Appearance Is Timeless

You must have seen wedding photographs in which the clothing, that seemed so right at the time, now provokes only gales of laughter. If you would prefer your descendants to see you in a more dignified light, it would be as well to give some considerable thought to the matter. Whatever you plan to wear, it must fit comfortably or your discomfort will be evident in the photographs, however much you try to hide it. Choose colours that compliment your own colouring and that of your partner and his or her outfit.

Because wedding photography usually includes full-length portraits, everything from your shoes upwards will be visible. Make sure that you take height into consideration – you neither want to be tottering awkwardly nor towering over your partner in an unusual manner. Wearing the same colour hosiery as your shoes helps to make legs look longer and shapelier. Your make-up and hairstyle should be subtle and enhance your natural attractiveness.

Give Some Thought to Your Smile

If your teeth could do with brightening up a little, it might be an idea to book an appointment with the dentist in plenty of time to ensure that your smile will not require enormous amounts of re-touching at the photographer’s studio after the shoot. Do make sure that you get plenty of rest and exercise in the days leading up to the wedding, regardless of how much pressure you may be under to attend to the endless details that are always involved in a wedding. Make up your mind to be rested and glowing on this happy day so that the wedding photography can show you in your most favourable light.

Do Cameras Make You Self-conscious?

If the thought of being photographed fills you with dread, it may be a good idea to ask a friend with a digital camera to spend time with you before the big day, taking endless pictures to get you accustomed to having being photographed. Observe your own posture, either using a mirror or your friend with the digital camera and try to ensure that you look as natural and relaxed as you can. Be conscious of holding your head up, your shoulders down and your back as straight as is comfortably possible. When seated, make sure that your legs look decorous – keeping them together and parallel, crossing your feet at the ankles or tucking them slightly to one side of you.

Put Your Trust in Your Photographer

Remember that it is just as important to your wedding photographer that your pictures come out well as it is to you and you may be offered some great advice that is aimed at pleasing you in the long run, so do take in any tips that come your way and make up your mind to put the outcome firmly in the hands of the expert and relax. Being a reportage photographer in addition to capturing weddings for posterity, Kat Hannon – her page is at www.kh-wedding-photographer.com/surrey-wedding-photographer.html – is the obvious choice as she has a great deal of experience and is happy to offer wedding couples a rehearsal session, during which she can offer expert advice and help to put you at your ease.

1. Please make sure to wear a veil! When will you ever have another chance to wear a veil and celebrate? It’s your wedding day so be bold! I love long veils, too.

2. Your bouquet adds a lot of beauty to the photographs so hold them close to your body. Around the belly button area is the ideal place to hold them, but without covering up the dress. Tilting the flowers to the camera allows the photographer to see the flowers and not the stem. Practice this at home before the wedding!

3. Remember this is not your mother’s wedding! Be edgy, wear red, if not red, then something red or green or pink. Wear a color that makes your heart sing and laugh.

4. I always talk to my ladies about the time line of the wedding day. I *highly* recommend that you involve your photographer in the day’s organization because the photographer is the one who can capture the award winning shots. If you don’t involve her or him then how do you get the great shots? Photographer’s are master directors, use their experience.

5. Something colorful magical like having your guests throw petals or blow bubbles as you walk down the isle makes for fun, exciting photographs. Plus, you’ll enjoy the experience of being showered by something sweet and soft.

6. Please have your bridesmaids tidy the room before the photographer arrives or else you’ll have a big mess showing in the photos. Also, have your bridesmaids dressed and ready before they help you into your dress; this makes for beautiful photos.

7. It’s important to have a professional makeup artist for your wedding day to get the best possible beauty shots. Makeup for photography is not as easy as you may think and it always takes longer than expected. Add at least an extra hour for the hair and makeup people. Have your makeup artists use a powder foundation and blush. Creams can appear shiny on camera and their is nothing worse than shine on the nose! Also, have the makeup artist give you some powder for you (and the groom!) to use before the formals.

8. Walk v e r y s l o w l y down the isle and ask the wedding party to do the same. This gives the photographer time to grab a variety of photos and get the guest’s reactions. Don’t worry about looking at the photographer, look everyone in the eye, enjoy this moment!

9. One of my favorite shots is to have the bride and groom stop half way down the aisle, on the way out, and blow a kiss to the photographer and the whole room. This is the perfect time to play to the camera and pretend you are in a movie, because you are!

10.PLEASE place the cake in a picturesque spot, otherwise it’s just a cake against a wall. Why spend the money on a lovely cake if you don’t give it a beautiful presentation? The table counts, too, so decorate it.
