Improving your digital photography.

Shooting RAW With Your Digital Camera.

Are you looking to get the best quality from your digital SLR? If the answer is yes you need to forget about the auto modes and set your digital camera to RAW.

Setting your digital camera to raw will open up a whole new world of photography. Correctly processed raw images are sharper and contain more accurate colours. The extra information stored when shooting raw will give your image more detail – leaving you more room to experiment in your digital darkroom.

Raw explained: Raw files are a doorway to top-class image quality, which will also allow you maximum control. A raw image contains all the unprocessed data that reads directly from the camera’s sensor. A raw image file does not contain the finished product and you will have more work to do with the digital file but your final image quality should be first class.

For great results you will need to invest in a RAW converter that will enable you to maximise quality and control. A RAW converter is a piece of software that allows you to make all the changes that your image needs. Once you have made all the changes you can save your image to JPEG or to whichever format you need.

Shooting RAW will open amazing new avenues for an amateur photographer or a professional starting to use digital technology for the first time. Pictures with poor colour can be transformed into reasonable images, but this should not be a licence to get sloppy.

The standards of photography are still the same. Your RAW image needs to be exposed correctly; the RAW converter is not capable of making a blurred image sharp; and it can’t change the depth-of-field.

The only frustration when shooting RAW is the extra time spent on the computer, but once you get used to all the new tools with your software, you will soon realise that the changes were worth it.

The true benefits of shooting RAW are quality, control, image flexibility and easy image correction. But be careful – you should always aim for the best results using your camera first.

Waterproof Cameras: Take Nothing But Pictures, Leave Nothing But Waves

Published by guest under Uncategorized

Don’t rush into buying a waterproof camera before first reading these tips, whether you are an amateur professional or an experienced who is looking at submersible cameras for the first time. Here are some things to think about:

1) First and foremost, the sealing. This is what differentiates your waterproof camera from normal ones, and if any sealing breaks you are just left with an expensive piece of junk. Check all sealing while buying or evaluating, and recheck it regularly, especially in places where it comes under stress, such as on the camera lens or on the battery opening.

2) Quality of the pictures: a decent resolution is a must for underwater photography, especially if you may want to zoom up details of shots once the shot has been taken. Five megapixel is good for compact waterproof cameras, and eight is adequate for SLR’s.

3) Looks and bulkiness. These are important, as you need to make sure that the device will fit your hand and your swimming or diving style. Some cameras come in bright colors to aid visibility, but not everyone likes them. If there is something that you miss, shop around some more and you may just find what you are seeking.

4) Enquire about the industry standard: This ensures that the waterproof camera has been professionally built and checked. For instance, JIS (Japan Industry Standard) 8 is good enough for a camera that you will only use in surface waters (3-4 meters maximum), while for a dive camera you will need it to conform to more exacting standards.

5) Features and extras: Check that the waterproof camera has all the things you need. Important ones for underwater use are shutter speed and burst picture mode, good lens aperture, autofocus, and a powerful flash.

6) You bought a waterproof camera? Great! Now clean it. Regularly. Be especially vigilant around dust, tar and sand, these will destroy your gaskets and water WILL leak into your device, rending it useless. Or your lens will jam. A well maintained camera is a long-lived camera.

7) Avoid exposing your waterproof camera to harmful chemicals, This includes Chlorine, so avoid using it in artificial pools. The sea, rivers and lakes are much safer environments for underwater photography equipment.

8) make sure that you do not end up with a splash-proof camera, instead of a waterproof one. These are not intended to be submersed, and will assuredly leak and then break if you do put them under water.

9) Make sure that you take adequate time to read your camera manual and read all there is to know about your waterproof camera’s features, program modes, and uses. Don’t rush into using it and you will be better in using it after a while.

Studio Photo Lighting

Published by guest under Uncategorized

Photography studio equipment consists of many different items, however one of the most crucial items of photography equipment are lighting kits.  Utilizing the proper lighting kit for either a movie scene or studio photography will be displayed clearly with your ending result.

Here we have to distinguish between two basic types of photographic lighting, whether for digital or film.  Continuous lighting and flash or strobe lighting.  Continuous lights are those types of fluorescent and halogen lighting kits which when you turn them on, the scene or studio is lit continuously until you turn them off.

Strobe lighting kits or flash lighting kits are suitable for use in a variety of photographic situations and the bulbs have very long lives, about 10,000 flashes.  However with these types of flash or strobe lighting kits, they are not suitable for regular commercial cameras.

In this instance, for new photographers that may not wish to purchase specific cameras but require a photo lighting kit, a cool fluorescent lighting kit or halogen lighting kit would be a suitable alternative.

Lighting is critical to all film and video productions whether it is photo lighting for a pro studio or home or in a dramatic movie or stage scene. If you do not have an excellent soure of lighting, it can be difficult to capture the warmth in photographs or to even see a great onstage play without a great lighting source.

The quality of the photography studio equipment that is being used for scenes or photos will have a direct affect on the outcome.  Some photo lighting kits that are on the market are simply overrated and overpriced as well.  Nearly all photographers from amateur to professional want value for their hard earned dollar.  To start or build their own home photo studio or professional studio.
